Shop Associate


Operations

  • Responsible for operational procedures of the store including but not limited to: 
    • maintaining the visual standard of the store (ie. restocking, organizing and cleaning)
    • processing transactions with deep understanding of Shopify Point of Sale system (sales, returns, gift cards, etc) with rare error.) 
    • Inventory management including processing of new shipments and anticipating / communicating replenishment needs to business owner. 
    • Keyholder opening and closing responsibilities (following successful probationary trial period). 
  • Create a warm and welcoming shop experience for customers by seeking out interactions and building relationships, actively assisting customers and proactively identifying their needs to provide memorable and exceptional customer service throughout their time in the shop. Show charitable assumption + kindness for all customers, exemplifying Phosphene’s core values of community and inclusivity.
  • Maintain a vast knowledge of the products and makers we represent and articulate conversations around brand messaging and values: ethical fashion, intentional shopping & conscious consumerism and sustainability as a tool to encourage sales and connection with our customer base. 
  • Support creative content development - taking initiative while in shop to photograph inventory, creative potential social media content (flat lays, shop photos, etc). Includes participation in other content creation mediums as business builds, such as Phosphene Journal, photoshoots, etc. 
  • Support workshop staffing as needed. 


Additional / Miscellaneous


  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, strong assessment and decision-making skills. Reliable for scheduled shifts, on time. 
  • Maintain quick and clear, proactive and respectful conversation with fellow employees and management regarding role responsibilities and scheduling.
  • Maintain a positive, flexible attitude and be eager to learn and grow with us!
  • Dress to mirror Phosphene Studio principals. Clothing should be minimal, contemporary and fit the aesthetic and values of the store.

Phosphene offers a curated edit of slow fashion clothing, accessories, and home goods.

Our purpose is to encourage thoughtful, intentional buying practices (also known as conscious consumerism) and to be a resource for our community to connect with responsibly made goods from independent designers around the world.

Phosphene operates a brick and mortar shop located in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia (one hour south of DC, one hour north of Richmond) alongside its e-commerce business. The brick and mortar space is also used for workshops, events and as a creative studio for content creation. The business was founded in 2019.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Rachel Berenbaum channeled her passions for curation, mindful consumerism, brand storytelling, and community building into the launch of Phosphene in 2019.

The thoughtfulness and expertise Rachel brings to Phosphene has earned the trust of her customers and community. She is relied on for suggestions that are honest, accurate, and aligned with Phosphene’s values. She is at the heart of creating a space where customers feel as comfortable exploring new brands as they do debriefing their day over a cup of tea.

Rachel’s prior career experience in strategic planning, project management, and event planning has been key in Phosphene's development.
